Traditional Baskets

The baskets in this gallery are traditional in style. Some are historic Irish baskets, like the Ciseog, others are purely practical and beautiful. If you would like to order baskets contact me.

I love making the Ciseog Basket. This basket was traditionally used to strain and serve the boiled potatoes. It was placed onto the table for everyone to take from. I believe the willow would have held in the heat and moisture from the potatoes and may well have helped them to fluff up and the jackets to split. What a lovely picture that creates. They make fabulous fruit, bread, or snack baskets, They are very rarely seen for sale. Prices from €15 depending on size required.

The oval shopping basket can be a difficult thing to create, the base is intent on twisting when being made, strong hands and will are needed. This beautiful shopping basket has a two tone rand weave which is very striking. The strong wrapped bow handle will take considerable weight.

Take a look at my Traditional Moses Basket – Custom Made to Order these heirloom pieces are often made for the first grandchild and then passed through the family for decades, I feel so honoured to be a part of such a wonderful tradition..
